“Why Poor Men Often Have Long-Lasting Marriages” - Brymo Shares His Unusual Take

Nigerian singer Brymo has sparked debate with his unusual take on why some financially struggling men may have long-lasting marriages.

Nigerian singer Brymo has sparked a conversation online after offering his theory on why some men with little money appear to have long-lasting marriages.

According to the singer, the secret is not necessarily that the women in those marriages are also poor. Instead, Brymo believes it has more to do with independence, control and being your own boss.

Speaking about marriage and financial independence, Brymo pointed to men who run small businesses such as vulcanising, carpentry, butchering and other trades. He noted that many of these men may not make a lot of money, but they own their businesses and have control over their work.

“When I tell you that poor people have the longest marriage and stuff… have you noticed that all the poor men are vulcanizers, butcher, carpenter, who has his own shop?” he said.

Brymo explained that some of these men also have apprentices working for them, further reinforcing their position as business owners. For him, the amount of money a man makes is not the only factor that matters.

Brymo went on to argue that women may be more comfortable in marriages where their husbands remain independent and in control of their livelihoods.

“A woman does not want somebody to be taking care of her husband,” he said.

He suggested that even if a man earns only a small amount, having control over his work, time and decisions could contribute to stability in his marriage.

“A man’s marriage will last longer if he’s making stipend and he’s the boss. Go and check anywhere,” Brymo declared.

The singer was quick to clarify that he does not believe these marriages last simply because the wives have accepted poverty. According to him, the bigger issue is the man’s independence.

“That poor man’s marriage does not last longer because the woman is also poor… The man is a boss. No matter how small money he has, he’s the one in control of his life. He controls his own time. That’s all.”

Brymo’s opinion has since opened up a wider conversation about money, independence, gender roles and what actually keeps a marriage together.

While some may agree with his theory, others are likely to argue that lasting marriages are influenced by far more than a man’s income or whether he is his own boss.
