Don't Be Fooled by Online Aesthetics – Nkechi Blessing Slams "Lagos Big Girls" Culture

Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday has shared her candid thoughts on the ongoing feud between socialites Diiadem Adeola and Dabota Lawson, taking a swipe at the pressure to associate with self-proclaimed "Lagos big girls" and questioning the authenticity of the lavish lifestyles being flaunted online.

Don't Be Fooled by Online Aesthetics – Nkechi Blessing Slams "Lagos Big Girls" Culture

The actress weighed in on the heated public dispute between the two former friends, which has seen them trade accusations over fake financial gestures, business disputes, and personal betrayals.

In a Snapchat post that has since gone viral, Nkechi mocked the desperation of those who go to great lengths to befriend high-society personalities, suggesting that many who appear wealthy online are secretly struggling financially behind the scenes.

"Na una want be friends with self-acclaimed Lagos big girls by force. People wey be say na online aesthetic want wound them, the moment you go close you go too pity them," she wrote in Pidgin English.

The actress distanced herself from the "big girl" label, humorously describing herself as a "Yankee broke girl" whose priorities are simple: having enough to eat and money to travel around the world.

She also took aim at the culture of online validation, arguing that people who do not constantly display their lifestyle on social media are often wrongly labelled as broke, despite potentially having significant financial resources.

"The pressure to belong to the so-called Lagos big girls can never be for someone like me that likes my space," she wrote, adding, "When matter of 100m to 200m sup, we go chest am without flinching… 'Cus we no dey post lifestyle; dem go call us broke".

The ongoing feud between Diiadem and Dabota, which has dominated social media conversations, has exposed the often-hidden tensions behind the glamorous façades of Lagos high society.

The dispute escalated after Diiadem accused Dabota of using blogs to damage her reputation and orchestrating online smear campaigns against her. Dabota, in turn, claimed she had supported Diiadem during her pregnancy and alleged that Diiadem was involved with a married man named Churchill while pretending to maintain a friendship with his wife.

Diiadem has since responded, confirming she had never denied knowing Churchill and accusing Dabota of attempting to introduce her to different men for financial gain.

Nkechi's intervention serves as a timely reminder of the dangers of social media aesthetics and the pressure to project wealth and status in Nigeria's entertainment and high-society circles.

She has previously criticised online judgement, speaking out against those who shame women over their marital status or childlessness, arguing that outsiders cannot always see the private struggles behind someone's public image.

Her latest comments reinforce her long-held belief that genuine wealth and success do not require constant public validation, and that those who are truly comfortable with their resources often have no need to prove anything to anyone.

As the Diiadem-Dabota saga continues to unfold, Nkechi's message stands as a sharp critique of a culture that has turned social media status into a performance rather than a reflection of reality.
