“I Won’t Be 40 Still Dragging With Guys in Their 20s” - Davido Hints at Possible Retirement From Music

Afrobeats superstar Davido has sent fans into a frenzy after reflecting on the future of his music career and suggesting that he may not remain at the top forever.

Afrobeats superstar Davido has sparked fresh speculation about his future in music after revealing that he does not see himself competing at the top of the industry forever.

The singer, who has spent over a decade dominating the global Afrobeats scene, suggested that he could eventually step away from music for several years and still return to massive success. Speaking during a podcast session, Davido explained that although music remains a huge part of his life, he does not intend to continue competing with younger artists indefinitely.

“Music is my blood, but I’m not going to be 40 still dragging with guys in their 20s.”

The singer referenced American rap icon Jay-Z, who stepped away from releasing music at different points in his career while maintaining his status and influence in the industry.

Davido’s comments have now raised questions about whether the Afrobeats star could eventually follow a similar path. The biggest revelation from the conversation was Davido’s confidence that his existing body of work could sustain his career even if he stopped releasing new music.

“I can take a 10yrs break and still do a 50-arena tour. I have the catalogue.”

The singer went even further, suggesting that he could decide never to record another song and remain a major force in music.

“I might decide not to make another song for the rest of my life, and nobody is touching my catalogue.”

For an artist with multiple hit records, albums and international collaborations, Davido believes his catalogue has already cemented his place in music history.

Davido also appeared to suggest that artists should understand that staying at the absolute peak of the music industry has a limited window. His comments suggest that rather than spending decades trying to remain the biggest artist in the room, musicians should use their success in music as a foundation for other ventures.

“All I am saying is there are other things music should be able to help you branch out into.”

And Davido has already demonstrated this approach through his ventures outside music, including business, entertainment and investments.

The comments don’t necessarily mean that Davido is retiring anytime soon.

Rather, he believes that instead of constantly competing with younger generations, artists should build strong catalogues, businesses and other ventures that can continue working for them even when they decide to slow down.

Still, the thought of Davido voluntarily stepping away from music for 10 years is enough to get fans talking.
