“Akara Made Me Over N10m Every Month!” - Akwa Ibom Gov Umo Eno Reveals His ‘Akara Burger’ Business as Nigerians Drag Him Over Claim
Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has revealed the surprising business venture that reportedly earned him millions of naira every month before he entered politics.
Who knew akara and bread could make N10 million monthly?
Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has Nigerians talking after revealing that he once made nothing less than 10 million naira every month from selling akara and bread. This claim has now sent social media into a frenzy.
The governor made the revelation while recounting his entrepreneurial journey before becoming a politician, explaining how he combined akara, bread and coffee to build what he described as a thriving business. According to Eno, he started by selling akara and bread before coming up with his own version of an “akara burger.” Basically, customers got their bread opened up, and akara stuffed inside.
“I started selling akara and bread. Back then, I was doing Akara Burger. We open the bread and put it inside for you.” And apparently, business was booming.
Eno said workers heading to ExxonMobil were among those who patronised the business in the mornings, with customers also buying coffee from the coffee shop he later established.
What made Nigerians nearly fall off their chairs was the amount he claimed the business was bringing in.
“Every month, that akara business and that bread used to give me not less than N10 million.”
And just like that, the internet entered investigative mode.
Rather than simply applauding the governor’s entrepreneurial story, many Nigerians immediately began questioning the claim. Social media users have accused Eno of exaggerating or even lying about how much the business made, while others demanded evidence and more explanation.
Some Nigerians have asked the governor to provide evidence of the staggering figure, arguing that making 10 million naira monthly from akara and bread at the time he described sounds difficult to believe. Others have sarcastically questioned why he would leave a business supposedly making millions every month to venture into politics.
One social-media critic even calculated what N10 million would mean in daily sales and used the figure to question how many akara-and-bread portions would have had to be sold every day.
While some people have praised the governor for showing that seemingly small businesses can become lucrative, others are not convinced. The reactions have ranged from outright accusations of lying to sarcastic comments about Nigerians abandoning their careers to start selling akara immediately
For now, the N10 million remains the governor’s own account of what the business generated, and no publicly presented financial record independently verifies that amount as profit specifically from akara and bread.
But one thing is certain: Umo Eno’s akara story has officially become the most expensive akara gist on Nigerian social media.
