“Comot Here With That Useless Motivation!” - Davido Blasts Erigga Over Post Celebrating Musicians Who Didn’t Come From Money

Afrobeats superstar Davido has sparked another fresh social-media frenzy after clashing with rapper Erigga over a post celebrating musicians who had to hustle their way to the top without family wealth.

The controversy started after Erigga took to X to celebrate musicians who did not come from wealthy families and had to work for every dollar they earned.

“Shoutout to all the musicians who don’t come from family money and had to grind for every single dollar they earn.”

The post quickly got people talking, with some interpreting it as a celebration of artistes who built their careers from humble beginnings. But Davido appeared to take exception to the message. Responding to Erigga, Davido fired back:

“No be we say make your pops no guard o. Shoutout to the ones that came from family money and still grind to the top.”

The singer then took things up several notches, dismissing Erigga’s message as “useless motivation” and calling the rapper an “imbecile.” Davido did not stop there. In another post during the heated exchange, the singer asked:

“Deep down who like poverty?”

The comment has since generated massive reactions online, with fans debating whether Davido was simply defending people from privileged backgrounds or had taken Erigga’s post too personally.

In the middle of the controversy, Davido also appeared to hint that he could eventually walk away from music to concentrate on making money.

“No worry o I go soon leave their music for una GO MAKE MY BILLIONS … then that shit gonna be boring AF.” The statement has further fueled conversations about the singer’s future in music. 

Interestingly, Davido has previously spoken about experiencing financial struggles despite being born into a wealthy family. In August 2026, he recalled that there was a period when he was broke after leaving home to pursue music against his father’s wishes. He said his early experience inspired his song “Back When.” 

While Davido undeniably comes from a wealthy family, his argument appears to be that having access to family money does not automatically erase the work required to build and maintain a successful music career.

And just like that, Erigga’s shout-out to artistes from humble beginnings has turned into another fiery debate about wealth, privilege, poverty and the meaning of “hustle” in the Nigerian music industry.
