RCCG Donates $265,854 to Evacuate 500 Distressed Nigerians From South Africa
In a major show of support for distressed Nigerians abroad, the Redeemed Christian Church of God has donated more than $265,000 to help bring hundreds of Nigerians stranded in South Africa back home.
The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), led by Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has stepped in to support the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to bring distressed Nigerians home from South Africa.
The church has donated a whopping $265,854 to fund the evacuation of 500 Nigerians seeking to return home amid renewed xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks in South Africa. The Federal Government disclosed the development through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which expressed its appreciation to the church for the generous intervention.
According to the ministry, the donation will be used to purchase 500 one-way air tickets for Nigerians who are stranded or seeking to leave South Africa. The government described the gesture as a significant demonstration of RCCG’s compassion, solidarity and commitment to providing relief to Nigerians facing difficult circumstances abroad.
The ongoing evacuation exercise reportedly began on June 10, 2026, following a fresh wave of xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks targeting Africans and other foreign nationals in South Africa. So far, 1,640 Nigerians have been evacuated and brought back home, with the Federal Government fully sponsoring the return of 1,385 of them, while philanthropic donations have supported the evacuation of another 255 Nigerians. The government also disclosed that 202 Nigerians are currently awaiting final screening by South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs before they can be evacuated.
Nigeria’s High Commission in Pretoria and Consulate General in Johannesburg are reportedly continuing to work with Nigerian community associations to assist citizens who wish to return home. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs further called for continued collaboration with private organisations, philanthropists and faith-based groups to support Nigerians facing difficulties in the diaspora. The RCCG donation will reportedly be deployed in coordination with the church’s leadership in South Africa for the purchase of the 500 tickets.
With the latest intervention, the church has provided significant financial support toward helping hundreds of Nigerians escape a difficult situation and return safely to their home country.
