10 P-Square Classics That Still Sound As Good As Ever

Their catalogue remains one of the strongest bodies of work from the golden era of Nigerian pop. So, with the twins back in the spotlight for reasons far removed from their music, here are 10 P-Square classics worth returning to.

There are some Nigerian songs that belong to a particular time. Some Nigerian songs belong to a time that exists outside time. P-Square made plenty of the latter.

At the height of their run, Peter and Paul Okoye were almost impossible to escape. Their songs played at parties, weddings, clubs, school events and on practically every major radio station. But their appeal went beyond the music. They understood performance, fashion, choreography and spectacle, turning every new release into an event.

The brothers also had an unusual ability to move between sounds. They could make a dancefloor record, deliver a convincing love song, experiment with R&B or turn their own story into an anthem without losing the identity that made them P-Square.

Their catalogue remains one of the strongest bodies of work from the golden era of Nigerian pop. So, with the twins back in the spotlight for reasons far removed from their music, here are 10 P-Square classics worth returning to.

No One Like You

Few P-Square songs captured their softer side as well as “No One Like You”. Released on their 2007 album Game Over, the song is built around a simple declaration of devotion. Paul leads the emotional centre of the record while Peter’s supporting vocals help give it the warmth that has made it such a lasting favourite. Its place on wedding playlists across Nigeria and beyond speaks to how deeply the song connected with listeners.

Beautiful Onyinye

Released in 2012, “Beautiful Onyinye” showed P-Square at their most romantic. The song became even bigger with the appearance of American rapper Rick Ross, whose verse added an international touch without taking attention away from the brothers. Its gentle production and affectionate lyrics made it another standout from a duo that had mastered the art of making romance sound grand.

Do Me

“Do Me” remains one of the clearest examples of P-Square's ability to turn a song into a full performance. The 2007 record combines energetic production with a playful hook, while Waje adds her vocals to the mix. The song became closely tied to the duo's famous choreography and captured the carefree spirit of Nigerian pop in the late 2000s.

Personally

By 2013, P-Square had already established themselves as major performers, but “Personally” pushed that reputation even further. The song was a clear tribute to Michael Jackson, with the brothers recreating some of the late superstar's signature dance moves in its music video. Beyond its infectious rhythm, the record showed how much P-Square understood the connection between music and visual performance.

Chop My Money

“Chop My Money” was one of those songs that felt impossible to avoid when it arrived. Originally released on The Invasion in 2011, the record became even bigger through its remix featuring Akon and May D. Its playful celebration of money and enjoyment gave it instant appeal, while the international collaboration helped carry the song beyond Nigeria.

Alingo

“Alingo” arrived at a point when P-Square were already firmly established as African pop stars, and the song gave them another chance to showcase their strengths. Its energetic production and dance-driven appeal made it a natural fit for their performance style. Like many of their biggest records, the song was never meant to be heard without being seen.

E No Easy

Featuring J Martins, “E No Easy” offered a different side of the brothers. Rather than focusing only on celebration, the song reflects on the pressure and sacrifice that come with trying to make it. The combination of its message and catchy chorus helped turn it into one of P-Square's most relatable records. It remains a reminder that their catalogue was not built entirely around flashy performances.

Personally

“Personally” may have already earned its place in Nigerian music history, but its importance goes beyond the song itself. P-Square used the record to show just how much their artistry had grown, combining a catchy pop record with one of their most memorable visual performances. Its Michael Jackson influence was obvious, but the brothers still managed to make the record feel like their own.

Roll It

“Roll It” captures another important part of the P-Square formula: rhythm first, restraint later. The brothers build the song around a groove that encourages movement while keeping their vocals light and playful. It represents the kind of record that made P-Square so effective at parties, where their songs could turn an ordinary moment into a dancefloor.

Story

There may be no better way to look back at P-Square's journey than through “Story”. Featured on their 2005 album Get Squared, the song reflects on the road from their early days in Jos to becoming major stars. Its message gives the record an emotional weight that separates it from their more commercial hits. It is P-Square looking back at the struggle before the fame, and that makes it one of the most meaningful records in their catalogue.

company's dealings. He also shared documents and information which he said supported his claims.

The dispute then became even more complicated when questions about who actually created and controlled P-Square entered the conversation.
