After Writing UTME, 17-Year-Old Boy Allegedly Lured and Killed by Former Schoolmate in Lagos
A tragic incident has shaken many Nigerians after 17-year-old student Thompson Adams Omokafe was reportedly abducted and killed shortly after sitting for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
According to authorities, the teenager was allegedly lured to an apartment by a former schoolmate, Elijah Emmanuel (23), alongside an accomplice, Tony Ogenata (21). Police say the meeting turned fatal, leading to his death.
According to the family, Thompson left home on April 22 to visit Elijah Emmanuel, a former schoolmate he was familiar with and had visited on previous occasions. When he failed to return home and all attempts to reach him proved unsuccessful; his phone reportedly switched off, he was declared missing. His sister, Lovett Omokafe, reported the case to the police. While at the station, the family said they received a message from Thompson’s phone claiming he had been kidnapped and instructing them to download an application. Shortly after, a ransom of N150 million was allegedly demanded.
The family further revealed that police operatives tracked the suspects, leading to their arrest in Ikorodu. They claim the suspects later confessed to monitoring Thompson for some time, believing his family was wealthy. According to the account, they admitted to restraining him, recording him, and eventually killing him before making the ransom demand.
The family also claims his body was dumped in a canal in Awoyaya, Ibeju-Lekki. The devastating loss has left the family in deep grief. They have called for justice, urging authorities to ensure those responsible are held accountable. They also appealed for stronger measures to prevent similar tragedies from happening to other families.
As investigations continue, Nigerians are left mourning and hoping that justice will not only be served, but also deter such tragedies in the future.
