Babcock University Disowns Certificates Shared by Carter Efe, Announces Legal Action Over Alleged Forgery

Babcock University has spoken out in the wake of the online outrage that followed content creator Carter Efe, who posted his academic certificates online and announced plans to take legal action over alleged forgery.

The controversy started after Carter Efe posted pictures of certificates he claimed were issued by Babcock University while responding to critics in the ongoing “Olodo uprising” debate. The comedian posted documents to prove his academic credentials, claiming he graduated with a First-Class degree in Biochemistry from the university.

But the certificates quickly sparked a heated online debate, with many on social media questioning whether they were real. Critics said there were also inconsistencies in the documents, like the use of the phrase “First Class Upper,” a classification that does not exist in the Nigerian university grading system.

In response to the growing controversy, Babcock University has now clarified that the certificates circulating online were not official degree certificates issued by the institution. The university further announced that it would take legal action over the alleged forgery, which is necessary to protect the institution's integrity and reputation.

The development has since generated widespread reactions across social media. While some Nigerians applauded the university for addressing the issue, others urged that the matter be left for the appropriate legal authorities to investigate and determine.

As discussions continue online, the controversy has also reignited conversations about the spread of misinformation on social media and the need to feel among and keep up with societal pressures.
