BREAKING: Adeleke Wins Osun Election, Defeats APC’s Oyebamiji as INEC Declares Him Winner

It’s official! Governor Ademola Adeleke has secured another term in office after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him the winner of the 2026 Osun State governorship election.  

The much-anticipated election, which held on Saturday, August 15, ended with Adeleke of the Accord Party defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the figures announced after the collation of results from all 30 local government areas, Adeleke secured 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji polled 444,815 votes.

The incumbent therefore won by a margin of 66,252 votes.

The ADC candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished a distant third with 17,180 votes.  

The contest was closely fought across the state, but Adeleke managed to secure victories in 19 of Osun’s 30 LGAs, while Oyebamiji won 11 according to the reported collation results. Adeleke’s strong performances in several areas helped him build a sizeable statewide advantage despite APC’s victories in a number of key local government areas.

The election had generated significant attention in the days leading up to the poll, with political tensions running high and several public figures calling for a peaceful and credible election.

President Bola Tinubu had also urged INEC to ensure that the election was free and fair, while calling on security agencies to protect voters and electoral officials. Now that the votes have been counted and INEC has made its declaration, Adeleke has emerged victorious and will continue as Osun State governor.

The result brings an end to weeks of intense campaigning but with the political spotlight already shifting towards 2027, this Osun victory is unlikely to be the last major political conversation surrounding the state.
