"If I Knew We Were Running Out of Time, I Would Have Spent Your Last Days by Your Side" – Yomi Casual's Heartbreaking Tribute to Alex Ekubo

Yomi Casual, the celebrity fashion designer and younger brother of comedian Ayo Makun, has shared a deeply emotional tribute to his late best friend Alex Ekubo, describing the actor's death as a painful loss that has left a permanent void in his life. In a heartfelt message shared following the actor's burial, Yomi reflected on their more than 15-year friendship, revealing that Alex was far more than a friend he was family. According to the designer, the late actor stood by him through life's highs and lows, offering guidance, loyalty, wisdom, and unwavering support whenever he was needed. He described Alex as a trusted adviser, teacher, and brother whose kindness and selflessness touched everyone fortunate enough to know him. One of the most heartbreaking revelations in Yomi's tribute was his regret over not being present during Alex's final days. "It hurts deeply knowing I didn't spend your last days on earth with you. Alex, this one pain me oooo! If only I knew our time was running out, I would have done everything possible to be by your side. That regret will stay with me for a very long time," he wrote. He also expressed understanding of why Alex chose to keep his illness private, noting that the actor carried his struggles with dignity despite the pressures of public life. "Ore, I cannot blame you for keeping your illness private. Knowing the world we live in, I can only imagine the things people would have said. You carried your battles with dignity and strength," Yomi added.

Yomi Casual's wife also shared an emotional tribute, revealing the heartbreaking role her husband played in preparing his close friend for his final journey. She disclosed that only a few days before Alex's passing, Yomi had informed him that a newly tailored outfit was ready, but unlike their usual exchanges, there was no response. She revealed that Yomi was later faced with what she described as the most painful task of his career – dressing his late friend for his final journey. "Yomi goes to the funeral home to dress his friend in a well-tailored suit for his final journey. Omooo. Alex, how do you expect Yomi to heal from this loss? This is the hardest job he has ever done," she wrote. She added that Yomi had always been particular about Alex's suits, saying, "You kept saying, 'Babe, Alex go vex for me if that suit no come out well.' You finally got the honour of seeing him look so dapper in that suit one last time, even with so much pain and grief in your eyes". The tribute has deeply touched many social media users, with fans sympathising with Yomi Casual and praising the unbreakable friendship he shared with Alex Ekubo. Reflecting on their bond, Yomi said their friendship endured despite public scrutiny and rumours, adding that outsiders never truly understood the depth of their relationship. "Thank you for being the brother I chose and the friend anyone would be blessed to have. Thank you for your guidance, loyalty, sacrifices, wisdom, and the countless memories we created together," he wrote. Alex Ekubo was laid to rest in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State, on June 18, 2026, with family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones gathering to pay their final respects.
