"Would You Ask a Gynecologist the Same Question?" – Daniel Etim Effiong Fires Back at Critics Over Kissing Roles

Nollywood actor Daniel Etim Effiong has responded to people who question why he participates in kissing scenes despite being a Christian, explaining that the morality of an action depends on the condition and intention of the person carrying it out.

"Would You Ask a Gynecologist the Same Question?" – Daniel Etim Effiong Fires Back at Critics Over Kissing Roles

Speaking on Sound Mind with Tolu Afilaka, the actor pushed back against the double standard he says exists around such criticism, drawing a comparison to the medical profession.

"Would you ask this same question to a gynaecologist? Do you know who a gynaecologist is? Of course. A gynaecologist is a doctor, a medical doctor that saves lives and works with women and looks at the female genitals every day in his life, at work," he said.

Effiong turned to biblical principles to explain his position, stressing that a person's inner state should be considered when judging an action. Referencing the Bible, he said, "A good man, out of the good things of his heart, bringeth forth good things." He added, "It's not what goes into a man that destroys him morally. It is what comes out of him".

The actor argued that intention and inner disposition, rather than the act itself, determine whether something is right or wrong. "There's a condition of your heart that qualifies what you do, that puts what you do in perspective, that judges what you do," he explained.

He maintained that wrongdoing does not necessarily depend on physical contact, pointing out that a person can act wrongly simply through what he sees or thinks. "By mere looking at someone, you can do evil. Yes. Much more evil than kissing someone," he stated.

Effiong concluded by reiterating that morality is ultimately a matter of the heart, not outward appearance. "There is a condition of the man's heart that judges what he does, that qualifies what he does, that makes it good or evil. It's not what you see from the outside. It's the condition of his heart," he said.

He also suggested that filmmakers should explore braver, different ways to show love and deep connection without relying solely on kissing scenes.

This is not the first time the 42-year-old actor has defended his acting choices, particularly regarding intimacy scenes. He has previously explained that movie producers include kissing scenes because audiences want them, and he has urged critics to separate professional performance from personal morality.
