“You Can’t Be Calling Me Mo Anyhow, I Won’t Take It!” - 61-Year-Old Mo Abudu Insists on Respect From Younger People

Media mogul Mo Abudu has opened up about her traditional upbringing, business reputation and relationship standards, making it clear that she expects younger people to show her the respect she believes her age deserves.

Media mogul and EbonyLife CEO Mo Abudu has made her stance on respect and how younger people address their elders crystal clear, saying she will not tolerate being casually called “Mo” by younger people. The 61-year-old businesswoman made the revelation during a conversation with media personality Toke Makinwa on Toke Moments, where she opened up about her upbringing, business reputation and relationship.

When Toke Makinwa asked whether she was particular about being addressed as “Aunty,” Mo Abudu did not hold back. The media executive explained that her traditional upbringing significantly shaped her views on respect and age hierarchy.

“I am very traditional. I was brought up in Ondo by my grandmother. You can’t be calling me by my first name anyhow. I won’t take it!” she said.

Mo’s comments have sparked conversations about the changing culture of addressing older people, particularly as younger generations increasingly use first names even when speaking to people significantly older than them. For the EbonyLife boss, however, age and respect still matter and she expects younger people to understand that boundary.

Mo Abudu also addressed the perception of her as a tough or aggressive businesswoman. According to her, some of the labels attached to her personality and business approach could be influenced by gender.

“If I was a man, they wouldn’t say I was a shark. They’re going to say she’s an astute businesswoman,” she said.

The media executive further suggested that some people who describe themselves as victims may actually be avoiding responsibility for their own shortcomings. Her comments reflect her reputation as a highly driven businesswoman who has built a major media empire and is known for her ambitious approach to the entertainment industry.

Mo Abudu also offered a glimpse into her approach to romantic relationships, declaring that heartbreak is no longer something she fears.

“Nobody can break my heart,” the 61-year-old said.

She explained that at this stage of her life, she has developed a different perspective on relationships and emotional experiences. When it comes to the kind of man she would consider dating, Mo said she would prefer someone around her age or older. For her, age alone is not enough. She wants a partner she can respect and admire.

“You must have achieved something,” she said, highlighting achievement and personal accomplishments as important qualities she looks for in a partner.

From demanding respect from younger people to defending her reputation as a formidable businesswoman and revealing her standards in love, Mo Abudu’s candid conversation has given fans another glimpse into the personality behind one of Nigeria’s most influential media executives.
