Asake Is Taking Africa and The World By Storm With Afro-Street Pop

Asake Is Taking Africa and The World By Storm With Afro-Street Pop

Of all the music coming out of Nigeria's Afro-street pop scene, none is as precise and truthful as the songs of hedonism, lingua, and wealth springing out. In a place like Nigeria where lives are pressed against the edges, we at TrendyBeatz wrote about how Asake's music is an escape, his music career journey, and how he's dominating the music industry.

The music industry is experiencing a revolution, and it's been televised through the YBNL signed artist, Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, also known as Mr. Money — the Lagos-based Afro-street & Afrobeat musician. The versatile hitmaker, who is presently the face of street Afropop — a subgenre of Afrobeats that has its origins in the ghetto areas of Nigeria (the slums).

Asake's Music: The Genre of Groove and Party

While it takes most artists several years to find their feet in an evolving industry, Asake rose to prominence in a short period immediately after he got signed into the YBNL music label, and he’s been touted as a perfect replacement to some serial hitmakers in the Nigerian Music Industry. While other people might hold a grudging opinion against it, and think it's just being lofty. Numbers don't lie, and stats don't deny facts.

"Omo Ope” wasn’t surprising because Asake has shown growth and remarkable consistency since his first not-so-hit single, "Mr Money". He has evolved to that guy who has tons of hits in his bag. More like David storing stones waiting for the perfect time to eventually hit Goliath, and then the hit becomes a banger that wakes the Philistines from their slumber. The music industry is that Goliath, and he drops it during the period we’re all in our usual anticipation awaiting new music dimension from the industry, and Asake comes around visiting with the exact song we need at that time.

Asake's style is different, and most times when he sings, it sounds like spirits are ascending from his core.

“Sungba," "PBUY (Peace Be Unto You)," "Sungba Remix", and “Pallazo" were one of the biggest hits we listened to this year and felt convincing about the young lad’s art. If we dig deeper, not many can boast of the big achievements Asake has in his bag right now with five hit songs that top the Nigerian music chart in just six months. Not to mince words now, Asake is in the same range as Kizz Daniel, Reekado Banks, Naira Marley, Zlatan, and all artists who started a couple of years before he even dreamed about the “Omo Ope” hit.

Everybody has a story to tell, and like Asake, he didn't just erupt from nowhere to make awesome music. It's been years of consistency and dedication to the art. At first, he started as a dancer while a student of Theatre Arts at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, where he was popular for his memorable dance routines, electrifying performances, and his single, ‘Joor Ah’.

Albeit, Asake has been in the music industry for a while, he has released several singles, just that 2022 is his year of ascent.

On the 8th of February, Olamide announced Asake as the latest YBNL signee, and six days later, Asake announced the release of his eponymously-titled debut EP, Ololade Asake. Perhaps people were curious about Olamide’s latest signee or genuinely drawn to the sound, regardless, starting the year with ‘Omo Ope’ featuring Olamide. Fortunately, after the release, the EP topped the charts.
Regardless of the identity conundrum, Asake is an artist that has a hitmaker tag written all over him and his music.

Lately, we have had different comments on Twitter, many people believe that Asake needs to switch it up and that his heavy percussion beats have become monotonous. That Sungba beat is more or less like Palazzo, and PBUY (Peace Be Unto You). Regardless of the netizen's opinion, Asake has never allowed the opinions to affect his style of music.

However, it's very important to note that talent is one thing, but the artist who backs that with work ethic and enough guts to leap outside his comfort zone? Then, It’s Asake! His confidence when he's on the mic, and his energy when he's in the video are unmatched.

Recently, he got signed to Empire Label officially. Joining Olamide and Fireboy together in the label. The artist has also taken to his social media platforms to announce and inform his fans that his first album Mr. Money With The Vibe (MMWTV) is on its way.

Undoubtedly, we can all agree that Asake is the rave of the moment, taking afro-street pop to the world and a moving train that is hard to stop.
