Singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P of the defunct P-Square, has revealed that he changed his birthday from November 18 to November 30 because the date has been a source of pain and pressure for nearly two decades.

Speaking on the Capital XTRA Podcast, Mr P explained that November 18 has not felt like a personal celebration for years.
Instead, it has become a day when the public focuses on what he and his twin brother, Paul Okoye, will post or say, rather than simply wishing them well. "November 18th, for the past 13 years, hasn't been a birthday that everyone can wish for themselves.
November 18th is always gonna be like a moment where everybody's looking out to see what you're gonna post, what they're gonna say," he said.
The singer explained that the scrutiny is compounded by the fact that his brother is also his neighbour.
He said visitors frequently go to Paul's side, where gossip tends to follow, while others feel uneasy about calling on one twin without acknowledging the other. "My brother is my neighbour, like I said, and people go to his side.
They do a lot of gossip, and they don't want to feel neglected," he added.
Because of this, he now considers his birthday a personal matter, one he would rather observe quietly and separately.
In perhaps the most striking part of his comments, Mr P said he has thought about formally changing his date of birth on official documents, including his passport, though he conceded the process would not be quick. "I wish I could change that on my documentation, the passport, but I know it's gonna take a lot of time. But because maybe in the near future I might do it," he said.
He summed up his feelings by stating, "November 18th has been not a birthday. It has been a bad day for me for the last 16, 17 years".
Mr P had formally announced the change in April 2026, stating that he would no longer celebrate on November 18 and would instead mark his birthday on November 30.
He said he would not be accepting birthday wishes or gifts on the original date, describing the decision as personal.
The move is widely viewed as an attempt to separate his celebration from that of his brother, with whom he has had a strained relationship since the split of P-Square.
The revelation has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some fans expressing sympathy for his struggles, while others questioned the necessity of the change and described it as petty given the more substantive issues that have defined the brothers' estrangement.
