Papa Ajasco Laments His Current Hardships As Life Has Become Increasingly Challenging For Him
Nigerian veteran actor Abiodun Ayoyinka, famously known as Papa Ajasco from the popular Nigerian sitcom, has opened up about the tough challenges he continues to face behind the scenes, despite enjoying widespread fame and recognition.
Papa Ajasco revealed how his legendary role limited his opportunities outside of the beloved comedy series, shaping his career in unexpected ways. He also shared heartfelt reflections on the personal hardships and setbacks he's encountered in recent years, offering a deeper glimpse into the struggles behind his fame.
During an interview with media personality Lucky Udu, he candidly discussed how issues surrounding the ownership rights of his iconic character have constrained his professional opportunities beyond the confines of the comedy franchise.
According to Ayoyinka, the character Papa Ajasco is legally registered by veteran producer Wale Adenuga through Adenuga Productions, which imposes significant restrictions on his ability to utilise the character for personal projects, endorsements, or commercial ventures.
He revealed that numerous companies frequently seek his participation in advertising campaigns, eager to have him portray the iconic Papa Ajasco character, complete with the recognisable costume and mannerisms. However, he emphasised that, without the necessary legal approval, he is not authorised to do so.
The actor also noted that the public’s deep association with the Papa Ajasco character makes it challenging for him to be recognised in roles as himself. Many people still expect him to appear in full Papa Ajasco costume and mannerisms, which complicates his ability to be seen as a different person beyond the character.
He also revealed that he once worked with the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture before retiring five years ago. With a career spanning many years in the entertainment industry, he candidly shared that, despite his success, life has never been without its struggles.
