Portable Seeks Don Jazzy's Assistance To Resolve Financial Difficulties
Controversial Nigerian artist Portable has publicly appealed to renowned music producer Don Jazzy for financial aid, citing persistent challenges with streaming payouts affecting his earnings.
In a highly circulated Instagram video, Portable publicly appealed to Don Jazzy, founder of Mavin Records, for financial support amid ongoing financial challenges. He voiced his frustration over his monthly Apple Music payouts, emphasising that, despite robust streaming numbers, his income remains inadequate to sustain his livelihood.
Portable claimed that his monthly Apple Music earnings are unexpectedly modest, attributing this to the perceived undervaluation of streams from Nigerian audiences.
He explained that the main problem is that streams from Nigeria are being undervalued, which hurts his earnings even though he is putting in a lot of creative effort. Frustrated by the gap between his work and the money he’s receiving from Apple Music, he asked his fans for support and also reached out to music industry leader Don Jazzy for help.
Many fans have responded with scepticism, reminding everyone of previous instances when Portable openly criticised industry figures like Olamide Baddo and Poco Lee, individuals who had previously supported him. This has led some to question his recent plea for help and whether his actions are consistent.
Many Nigerians believe that Don Jazzy might face some criticism because Portable has a history of turning on those who support him. For example, he once praised Olamide, the boss of YBNL, but later fell out with him.
