Resident Doctors Suspend Nationwide Strike, To Resume If Demands Are Not Met
The Nigerian Asoociation of Resident Doctors has suspended it's nationwide strike, bringing temporary relief to patients and hospitals across the country. However, the doctors have made it clear that the suspension is not a sign that the crisis is over.
This is happening after the association already announced a strike which began on April 7, 2026. Now the strike has been suspended to resume by April 21 if their demands are not met. According to the association, the strike was paused after fresh assurances from the Federal Government regarding unresolved salary and welfare concerns. But the union has now issued a firm warning that if those promises are not fulfilled by April 21 another strike could follow.
The development has sparked mixed reactions among Nigerians. While many are relieved that doctors are returning to work for now, others remain worried that the healthcare sector may once again be thrown into crisis if negotiations fail.
