“Marriages No Longer Work; Even the Wives of Our Legends Now Get Chopped by Younger Men” - Tekno Shares His Frank Opinion on Modern Relationships

Nigerian singer Tekno has sparked widespread debate after sharing his candid views on modern relationships, claiming that marriages are no longer as strong as they once were and that genuine love has become increasingly rare.

Afrobeats star Tekno has stirred conversations on social media after opening up about what he believes about the changing nature of love and relationships in recent years.

Speaking during an interview on Cool FM, the singer reflected on how the COVID-19 pandemic may have permanently altered the way many people view romance and commitment. According to Tekno, the lockdown period forced couples to spend extended time together, leading some to realize they were no longer compatible with their partners.

“People got to spend time with their partners that period, so maybe they got to realize they don’t really like them. I feel like since then, people have leaned into this not wanting to love as much.”

The singer went on to argue that modern relationships have become increasingly fragile, claiming that many marriages no longer stand the test of time. He also claimed

“Marriages don’t work. You even have some of our legends’ wives getting chopped by some of the new boys.”

Although he did not mention any names or provide examples, the statement quickly sparked heated reactions online, with many debating whether his comments reflected the realities of modern relationships. Tekno also lamented what he described as the decline of genuine romance, saying there was a time when love was the driving force behind both relationships and storytelling.

“There was a time where love was a thing, for real. Even our movies revolved around love. Now our movies are just clout and influencing. It doesn’t feel organic.”

His remarks have since gone viral, generating mixed reactions across social media. While some agreed that relationships have changed significantly in recent years and blamed social media and shifting priorities, others argued that successful marriages still exist and that love remains alive for couples willing to invest in trust, communication, and commitment.

As discussions continue, Tekno’s comments have once again ignited a broader conversation about the state of modern love and marriage.
