"We Demand a Replay!" – Over 80,000 Argentina Fans Sign Petition Calling for World Cup Final Rematch Against Spain

More than 80,000 Argentina fans have signed an online petition demanding that the 2026 FIFA World Cup final be replayed, alleging that controversial officiating and the sending off of Enzo Fernández unfairly influenced Spain's 1-0 victory.

"We Demand a Replay!" – Over 80,000 Argentina Fans Sign Petition Calling for World Cup Final Rematch Against Spain

The petition, created on Change.org, has gathered over 80,000 signatures from furious Argentina supporters who believe the final was decided by poor refereeing decisions rather than the quality of Spain's performance.

The fans claim that Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic made a series of errors that unfairly impacted the match, most notably the decision to send off Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernández in the second half after he received a second yellow card.

The petition argues that the red card left Argentina with 10 men for extra time, a crucial period in which Spain eventually scored the winning goal through Ferran Torres.

Supporters also point to what they describe as "videos circulating on social media" that allegedly show refereeing decisions favoring Spain, with some fans even claiming the match was manipulated.

While no concrete evidence of manipulation has been presented, the emotional reaction from Argentina fans reflects the deep disappointment of losing the World Cup final in such dramatic circumstances.

The petition urges FIFA to investigate the matter and order a replay of the match to ensure the integrity of the tournament is upheld.

The defeat was particularly painful for Argentina, who had dominated the tournament until the final and were seeking to become the first team since Brazil in 1962 to win back-to-back World Cups.

Lionel Messi, playing what is expected to be his final World Cup, was visibly devastated after the match, and the loss has left a bitter taste for millions of Argentina supporters worldwide.

The petition represents the frustration of fans who believe their team was unfairly denied the chance to defend their title.

Despite the petition, FIFA is unlikely to consider a replay, as there is no precedent for such action based on disputed refereeing decisions in a World Cup final.

The governing body has historically upheld the authority of match officials and has never overturned a final result due to officiating controversies. However, the sheer number of signatures demonstrates the depth of emotion surrounding the defeat and the enduring belief among Argentina fans that their team was wronged.

As the debate continues to rage on social media, the petition serves as a symbol of Argentina's heartbreak rather than a realistic pathway to changing the result.

Spain have been crowned world champions, and the trophy is theirs to keep, regardless of the outcry from Argentina supporters.

For Messi and his teammates, the focus will now shift to processing the loss and determining what the future holds for a generation that came so close to achieving greatness once again.
