Super Falcons Cry for Justice After Hotel Staff Allegedly Steal Over 1,200 dollars From Players in Morocco

The Super Falcons' preparations for the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations have been thrown into disarray after players accused cleaning staff at the Marriott Hotel in Casablanca of stealing cash totaling over 1,200 dollars from their rooms, with forward Esther Okoronkwo leading the charge for justice.

Super Falcons Cry for Justice After Hotel Staff Allegedly Steal Over 1,200 Dollars From Players in Morocco

Forward Esther Okoronkwo took to Snapchat on Friday to expose the alleged thefts, claiming that hotel cleaning staff had accessed the players' rooms while they were away and made off with cash from their wallets. Okoronkwo initially reported that 500 dollars had been stolen from her belongings but later issued a correction after recounting her money: "Guys I did my calculations wrong; they actually stole 700, not 500 US dollars".

She also alleged that several other members of the squad were affected, with the total losses reportedly exceeding 1,200 dollars.

The affected players include captain Rasheedat Ajibade, who allegedly lost 200 dollars, veteran defender Osinachi Ohale with 100 dollars missing, midfielder Halimatu Ayinde who also lost 100 dollars, Joy Omewa who had 120 pounds stolen, and Asisat Oshoala who lost 100 dollars.

Okoronkwo described the incident in stark terms: "The cleaning people stole the money. So they waited while we weren't in the room to clean and steal the money". She urged her teammates and followers to "write bad reviews" about the hotel, expressing frustration over the alleged theft.

When the players confronted hotel management, Okoronkwo claimed they received no satisfactory explanation and were met with what she described as "disrespectful responses".

She further alleged that front desk staff showed little concern, insisting that neither of them appeared troubled by the complaint. The Super Falcons' Media Officer, Mary Cathryn, confirmed the incident had been reported to the relevant Moroccan authorities for investigation.

The incident has also revived memories of a similar case earlier this year involving the Super Eagles, who reportedly lost cash and personal belongings at a hotel in Rabat before their AFCON semi-final against Morocco.

Reactions to the incident have been swift and emotional, with many fans and commentators expressing outrage and support for the players.

Some have called on the Nigeria Football Federation to intervene and pursue the matter through the appropriate channels, while others have questioned the hotel's security measures.

Despite the distraction, the Super Falcons have continued their preparations, leaving Casablanca for Rabat to begin their title defence. Their first Group C match is scheduled for July 28 against Malawi.
