Lagos to Host 2026 CAF Awards as Nigeria Welcomes Africa’s Biggest Football Stars

Lagos is set to become the centre of African football after Nigeria was officially selected to host the 2026 CAF Awards, bringing the continent’s biggest stars to the country.

Nigeria has officially been selected to host the 2026 CAF Awards, bringing Africa’s most prestigious football awards ceremony back to Lagos.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed that the star-studded event will take place at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts (formerly the National Theatre) in Iganmu, Lagos. The announcement marks a major milestone for Nigerian football, with the country set to host the CAF Awards for the first time since 2015.

Every year, the CAF Awards celebrate the continent’s finest football talents, honouring outstanding players, coaches, clubs and national teams for their achievements over the previous season. Some of the most anticipated awards of the night include the African Men’s Player of the Year, African Women’s Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Club of the Year, National Team of the Year, and Young Player of the Year.

The decision to bring the event to Lagos is being viewed as another vote of confidence in Nigeria’s ability to host major international sporting events. It also shines a spotlight on the newly renovated Wole Soyinka Centre, which has become one of the country’s premier venues for world-class events.

Football fans have already begun expressing excitement over the announcement, with many looking forward to seeing Africa’s biggest stars gather in Lagos for one of the continent’s most glamorous nights.

The ceremony is also expected to boost tourism, hospitality and entertainment in Nigeria, while giving local football lovers the rare opportunity to witness African football’s biggest names under one roof.
