HISTORY MADE! Cameroon Thrash Malawi to Win First-Ever WAFCON Title

Cameroon have emerged as the new queens of African women’s football after producing a stunning performance to lift the WAFCON title, sparking wild celebrations and marking a historic moment for the Indomitable Lionesses.

The Indomitable Lionesses have finally done it! Cameroon have been crowned African champions for the first time after a stunning 3-0 victory over Malawi in the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final in Rabat, Morocco.

After coming heartbreakingly close on three previous occasions, Cameroon finally broke the jinx and they did it in style.

The Lionesses wasted little time announcing their intentions. Marie Ngah opened the scoring in the 20th minute before Naomi Ndjoah Eto doubled Cameroon’s advantage around the half-hour mark. And just when Malawi needed the half-time whistle, Ngah struck again in stoppage time to complete her brace and send Cameroon into the break with a commanding 3–0 lead.

Malawi, who were appearing in the WAFCON for the first time, could not find a way back into the contest after the break.

For Cameroon, this victory carries even more significance. The Indomitable Lionesses had previously reached the WAFCON final three times; in 2004, 2014 and 2016 but lost every single one.

On their fourth attempt, however, there was no heartbreak. Cameroon are finally WAFCON champions.

The victory also makes Cameroon only the fourth country to win the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, joining Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea and South Africa. Cameroon’s historic run makes their achievement even more impressive. The Lionesses eliminated defending champions Nigeria 1-0 in the quarter-finals, before overcoming hosts Morocco in the semi-finals and then putting three goals past Malawi in the final. In other words, Cameroon didn’t just lift the trophy, they earned it the hard way.

For Malawi, it was a disappointing end to a remarkable debut campaign, but reaching the final on their first appearance remains a huge achievement.

For Cameroon, though, August 16, 2026, will forever be remembered as the night the Indomitable Lionesses finally conquered Africa.

The wait is over. The jinx is broken. Cameroon are WAFCON champions!
