“She Said I Must Have Two Cars Before Marriage, So I Ran Away” - Afeez Oyetoro Reveals Why His Marriage Was Delayed

Afeez Oyetoro, popularly known as Saka, has opened up about the financial struggles and lack of confidence that delayed his journey to marriage, recalling how one woman he intended to marry demanded that he own two cars before they could settle down.

Veteran Nollywood comic actor Afeez Oyetoro, popularly known as Saka, has opened up about his struggles with money, confidence and relationships before he eventually found the woman he married. The 61-year-old actor recalled a particularly striking experience from his younger years, revealing that a woman he was supposed to marry gave him a rather expensive condition before they could tie the knot.

Speaking about his life before fame and financial stability, Saka explained that his early career in theatre was not financially rewarding. According to him, he had completed his studies without even owning a car, while many people around him questioned whether he had a future in the entertainment industry. He recalled that one woman even told him he was wasting his life and advised him to leave theatre for something more “relevant.”

But the situation became even more serious when the woman he was actually supposed to marry gave him a specific condition.

“While I was still figuring out my life, the girl I was supposed to marry told me I must have two cars, before we got married.”

Rather than scrambling to meet the demand, Saka said he took it as a sign that the relationship was not meant to be.

“Something told me, Afeez, this is not your wife. So, I ran away.”

Saka explained that his financial struggles at the time were largely connected to the state of the theatre industry. He said artistes were driven by passion but were not necessarily taught how to turn their creative skills into sustainable income.

“I had nothing, not even a car when I finished,” he previously recalled, explaining that his lack of material possessions affected how some women viewed him.

The actor also admitted that his own lack of confidence contributed to his delayed approach to relationships. He eventually got married at the age of 40 to his wife, Olaide Oyetoro. The couple got married in 2003 and have three children together.

Saka has since gone on to become one of Nigeria’s recognisable comic actors, with his popular “Saka” character helping to establish him as a household name.

His story has therefore sparked conversations about relationships, financial expectations and the pressure young Nigerians face to achieve material success before getting married.
