“If Hausa and Yoruba Have Seaports and Embassies, Igbo Must Have Them Too” - Odumeje Demands Equality

Prophet Odumeje has reignited conversations about equality in Nigeria after calling for the South-East to have access to major national facilities, including seaports, international airports and embassies.

Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, popularly known as Odumeje, has sparked debate after calling for what he described as equal access to major infrastructure and government facilities for the South-East. Speaking in a recent video, the controversial cleric argued that genuine national unity cannot exist if important facilities and opportunities are not distributed fairly across the country.

“If Hausa people have a seaport, we have a seaport. Yoruba have seaport, we have a seaport. That is what they call one Nigeria,” Odumeje said.

He also demanded an international airport for the South-East, arguing that if other regions have international airports, the same opportunity should be available to the Igbo.

“If Hausa people have international airport, Yoruba have international airport. Igbo people will have their own international airport. That is what they call one Nigeria,” he added.

Odumeje also turned his attention to visa and diplomatic services. He argued that people in the South-East should not have to travel to Abuja or Lagos to access visa-related services.

“If Hausa people have embassies, Yoruba people have embassies where they go and get visas. Igbo people will have their own embassies where they go and get visa,” he said.

The cleric further criticised political and business elites from the South-East, accusing them of failing to speak loudly enough about what he considers the region’s infrastructural and institutional disadvantages.

“It’s an insult to all the elites of Igboland. And it’s showing that it is an insult to the entire Igbo generation. No public talking about it,” he said.

Odumeje maintained that the idea of “One Nigeria” should go beyond words and be reflected in how infrastructure and national services are distributed. “That is not one Nigeria. That is what they call deceive and lie,” he declared.

His comments come amid renewed discussions about infrastructure and federal investment in the South-East. Recent reports have also highlighted his criticism of the planned repairs to the Onitsha Head Bridge and his concerns about the region’s access to diplomatic services.

Concluding his remarks, Odumeje said the current generation must think about what it is leaving behind for those coming after them.

“We are no more a boy. We are fathers,” he said.
