“I’m Not Leaving Money Behind for My Children” - Spyro Explains His Unusual Wealth Philosophy

Nigerian singer Spyro has sparked conversations after sharing his unconventional views on wealth, parenting, music and his relationship with God.

Nigerian singer Spyro has sparked conversations after sharing his unconventional views on wealth, parenting, music and his relationship with God.

Speaking about leaving money behind for children, the “Who’s Your Guy?” crooner said he does not subscribe to the idea of working solely to leave a huge inheritance for his children.

“I’m not part of the school of thought of leaving money down for children at the end of the day because after I’m gone, I don’t know what you’re doing with it.”

Spyro explained that, in his view, inherited wealth does not automatically guarantee that a person will remain successful. The singer also revealed just how much money he has invested in his music, claiming that he has spent up to 100 million on some songs, while his most expensive music video cost about 50 million. He admitted that sometimes the streaming numbers make him question whether such huge spending was worth it.

Spyro also criticised the content of some contemporary music videos, arguing that many artistes would not be comfortable with their own children watching some of the visuals. According to him, some music videos have crossed the line into what he described as “pornography.”

The singer also described himself as a “Jesus boy,” while making it clear that his music is not gospel.

“I’m a Jesus boy because I love God, I serve God, but I don’t do gospel music.”

Spyro also acknowledged Wizkid’s influence on Nigerian music, saying he had learnt a lot from the Afrobeats superstar.

Reflecting on his own journey, Spyro said his breakthrough came after he had tried everything he could and eventually turned back to God. He explained that when all his efforts seemed to fail, his prayer became simple: asking God to help him, even if it was for his mother's sake.

His comments about wealth have already sparked debate, with Nigerians divided over whether parents should focus on building huge inheritances for their children or concentrate more on giving them the skills and values to create their own wealth.
