Speaking during a recent interview with VJ Adams, Remi explained that his wife does not believe she has to kneel whenever she meets an elderly person. According to the actor, Tiwi is comfortable kneeling for people she is closely related to, including her parents and grandparents, but does not extend the practice to every elderly person she encounters.
“My wife doesn’t even understand what kneeling means; she can kneel for her grandparents, her parents, but can’t kneel for every elderly person,” he said.
The comment has brought renewed attention to the different ways Nigerians understand respect for elders, especially when it comes to traditional greetings such as kneeling or prostrating.
Remi also spoke warmly about his relationship with Tiwi, describing her as his best friend. He explained that before marriage, one of his prayers was for God to teach him the things he did not know and prepare him for the responsibility of becoming a husband. While the couple may have different views on certain cultural practices, Remi’s comments suggest that understanding and accommodating those differences can be part of navigating marriage.
