‘My Husband Is Upset With Me’ - Real Warri Pikin Apologises After Viral Timaya Stage Moment

Popular Nigerian comedian Real Warri Pikin has apologised to her husband and Nigerians after a viral video showing her on stage with singer Timaya sparked criticism online.

The incident happened during the 2026 AFRIMMA Awards in Dallas, Texas, where Real Warri Pikin had just been honoured with the Best Stand-Up Comedian award. Timaya was also one of the performers at the event. During Timaya’s performance of his popular song “Ukwu,” Real Warri Pikin joined him on stage after he called for a woman to come forward. A video from the performance later circulated widely, showing Timaya lifting the comedian off the ground.

What appeared to be a playful moment on stage quickly became a talking point online, with some Nigerians criticising the interaction and questioning whether it was appropriate, particularly because Real Warri Pikin is married.

Following the backlash, the comedian took to social media to explain what happened and apologise. In her response, Real Warri Pikin said she had been backstage enjoying Timaya’s performance when he asked a woman to join him. According to her, she got carried away by the excitement and rushed onto the stage without knowing exactly what was going to happen. She explained that she was initially shocked when Timaya indicated that he wanted her to jump towards him. She claimed she was reluctant and even tried to decline, but eventually went along with the performance after Timaya encouraged her not to disrupt his set.

“Nigerians, please take it easy on me, I’m really sorry. I take full responsibility for my actions. Na me put myself for this one o,” she said in her apology.

Real Warri Pikin also revealed that the incident had not gone down well at home, admitting that her husband, Ikechukwu Asuoha, was upset with her over the viral moment.

The comedian’s explanation has since added another layer to the online conversation, with some people accepting that she simply got carried away by the atmosphere of a live performance, while others believe she should have exercised more restraint.

Interestingly, the controversy came just after what should have been a major celebratory moment for Real Warri Pikin. Her AFRIMMA win marked another international milestone in her comedy career, with the Nigerian comedian emerging ahead of several other prominent African comedians for the award. Now, instead of Nigerians only celebrating her achievement, the comedian has found herself explaining a few seconds from the same night.
