Bola Ahmed Tinubu as appointed Professor Segum Aina as the new JAMB registrar. The appointment was announced on May 21, 2026, in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. Professor Aina will officially succeed Is-haq Oloyede, whose second and final term as JAMB Registrar will end on July 31, 2026.
According to the presidency, Aina is a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University with deep expertise in digital infrastructure, national examination systems, and institutional reforms. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, as well as an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University, United Kingdom. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
Interestingly, Aina’s connection to JAMB reportedly dates back to his NYSC year, when he served with the examination body which shaped his later contributions to examination reforms.
His appointment comes at a critical time for JAMB, following recent nationwide conversations around UTME reforms, computer-based testing expansion, and examination system modernization, areas many believe his technical background could strongly influence.
At just 39, Professor Segun Aina’s appointment signals a generational shift at JAMB, one that will hopefully usher in a new era of technology-driven reforms and stronger confidence in Nigeria’s admissions system.
