UTME 2026 Kicks Off Nationwide as Millions of Candidates Sit for Exams
The nationwide rollout of the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) has started today, with over 2.2 million candidates heading to approved centres across the country. As one of Nigeria’s biggest coordinated academic exercises, the exams will run from April 16 to April 22, covering a full week of carefully planned sessions.
This year’s exam stands out not just because of the large number of candidates, but also due to the improved planning behind it. From scheduling to logistics and policy updates, efforts have been made to address issues experienced in previous years.
The decision to begin the exams in mid-April follows JAMB’s usual timeline, giving candidates enough time to prepare after registration and mock exams. It also helps avoid conflicts with other national activities and school schedules. Spreading the exam over seven days is another deliberate move aimed at easing pressure on centres while maintaining order and fairness throughout the process.
Wishing all candidates best of luck in their exams as they start today.
