Award-winning filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has revealed the difficult conditions his cast and crew faced while shooting Aníkúlápó, disclosing that they had to squat in people’s homes.
Popular Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has revealed the challenges he and his crew faced while shooting his hit movie, Aníkúlápó.
The filmmaker disclosed that when production started, the cast and crew did not have proper accommodation and had to squat in people’s homes. According to Afolayan, the situation was so challenging that some of the actors had to come with their belongings because there was simply nowhere for them to stay.
Speaking about the experience, Afolayan explained that the lack of accommodation during the production made him realise that Nollywood needed better infrastructure. He said the experience eventually inspired him to build a film village that could provide accommodation and other facilities for movie productions.
“I had to build 100 rooms in the film village,” the filmmaker reportedly said.
What started as a solution to a problem during the production of Aníkúlápó eventually became a much bigger investment for Afolayan. The filmmaker has reportedly invested billions of naira into developing his KAP Film Village and Resort, creating a space where actors, crew members and production teams can stay while working on projects.
Afolayan’s story has sparked conversations about the challenges filmmakers and actors face when shooting movies in locations outside major cities. For him, the experience was a reminder that producing quality films requires more than cameras, actors and good scripts. There must also be proper infrastructure to support the people working behind the scenes.
