A Review of Mavin Records Chapter X Album. Mavin Records Chapter X Album Marked A Decade Of Pop Dynasty

A Review of Mavin Records Chapter X Album. Mavin Records' "Chapter X" Album Marked A Decade Of Pop Dynasty. On this Mavin's Sophomore album, "Chapter X", TrendyBeatz analyses how the album still upholds the record label's culture of producing delightful music with an energetic flow of rhythm that weaves together different sonic emblems of all the artists in the label to create an explosive Afropop masterpiece.

Before the advent of Mavins, there was a mother record label that existed. The highly successful Mo'hits was the mother label that hosted the legendary and enigmatic class of superstars like Wande Coal, D'Banj, Dr Sid, D'Prince, Don Jazzy, and Kay Switch. Those years, Mavins had not been formed, let alone growing wings enough to soar high.

On the 8th of May, 2012, The versatile producer and recording artist Don Jazzy founded Mavin Records after the closure of Mo' Hits Records - the record label which was co-owned by him and his partner D'Banj. The growth of the Mavin record label has been monumental, the road from a small record label to one of the biggest record labels that houses the biggest music exports in Africa has been paved with beautiful memories and is still being paved. These memories are best triggered by some of the solid body of works that have emanated from this wonderful musical label.

A decade after the fruition of the Mavins Record Label, they have been able to release two solid label albums amidst several joint records. The debut album titled "Solar Plexus" is a compilation album that featured in-house artists like Wande Coal, Tiwa Savage, Dr SID and D'Prince. As the label continued to grow and grow, it opened its doors to more young generation artists like Reekado Banks, Johnny Drille, DJ Big N, Korede Bello, Di'Ja, DNA Twins, LADIPOE and Iyanya-while still maintaining its culture of churning out delightful songs like 2014's "Adaobi" and "DOROBUCCI," 2015's "JantaManta" and 2019's "All Is In Order that have coloured both Nigeria music landscape and Africa at large.

As Afrobeats continue to witness a global explosion, and an increasing contingent of Nigerian artists access new homes and hearts in distant countries and markets, Mavin Records have ensured that they are part of the movement as the leading light of the culture, with their eyes on young generation artists building superstars in artists like Rema, Ayra Starr, Crayon, Magixx, Boy Spyce and Bayanni. Mavin Records continues to maintain a standard of how to build and rub a local industry leader with partnerships and collaborations across the world.

In celebration of ten years worth of achievements, success and massive growth, Mavin Records released its sophomore project album titled 'Chapter X.'

The album opened up with "ALLE" featuring seven of Mavin's artists. The first stanza was picked by Rema, it is melodious, and his tone sets the song in a bright mood. Followed by Ladipoe, who infused rap with singing and passed the flow to Bayanni. Crayon's part was memorable, and his identity crispy voice makes the tune interesting. Magixx put the tempo on a higher note, and what's a perfect tune without Ayra Starr? Albeit her voice was short, the sonorous voice is the main spice of the record. Masterfully and perfectly engineered and arranged. The theme is clear and doctored in the lyrics as the soothing confession of love. The chorus "Alle" with the crowd vocals makes it sound like a solemn thanksgiving with a few sexual references thrown in for pleasure.

The bouncy beat that started on "All I'm Saying" is everything sugar & spice, and while the contribution could have been sugar and spice and everything twice, it failed to give the equivalent vibe. Featuring Boy Spyce, Johnny Drille, Don Jazzy, Ladipoe, Crayon, Bayanni. Ladipoe took his rap to another level on the mid-tempo afro-pop beat as they radiate in love and relationship themes. The outro guitar chords are harmonious and play till they fade off.

"Ogini Na Fio" is an Afro-pop beat arrangement masterpiece featuring Don Jazzy, Crayon, & Ladipoe. On the song, Crayon added a beautiful vocal to the chorus and Ladipo's rap remains top-tier, with the lyrics paying respect to true love and desire; Don Jazzy's deep voice stands out.

"Won Da Mo" and "Over Loading" were the pre-released songs that geared the anticipation towards the album. The former was produced by Vibez and it's hard to deny the genius production he pulled in the song. It's a combination of rock guitars and rhythmic percussions that get you moving before any vocals come in; you just want to dance.

While the latter pre-released song, "Over Loading", is a massive hit afro-pop song. All of the artists on the song deliver exceptional performances and well-groomed lyrics.

"Amina" featured Ayra Starr, Rema, Bayanni & Crayon, and it becomes enjoyable as soon as the log drum starts. One could say it's a rusty Amapiano, but it's house music. The excitement in the artists' voices as they dish verses on their love interest. Ayra Starr's excitement was the most obvious with: "Big vibes, big cheques and I kon knickers/I wear my Jimmy Choo, drink booze with my goons and sip on liquor." It's a party banger.

"Losing You" feat. Johnny Drille, Magixx & Crayon started with Johnny Drille's sultry voice. It's a soft tempo beat production; Johnny Drille begs for reconciliation in a way that tells the story of their love life, Crayon's solemn input and Magixx soft verse are a perfect blend of an emotional tune. A solemn serenade of heartbreak and loss.

"Won Le Le" featuring LADIPOE, Magixx, Crayon, Bayanni, Rema & Boy Spyce. LADIPOE kicks off the track with a swaggering rap verse before passing the baton to Magixx, who gave the perfect hook and chorus-like verse while Don Jazzy's voice was captured in the background serving his Alto Voice as a backup. Rema was fire, but Boy Spyce's verse is the hottest in this track with his Dancehall vibe verse.

On "Jara" featuring Bayanni, Don Jazzy, Magixx & DJ Big N, which is the penultimate track on the song, the Mavins artists made retrospective verses counting their blessings; it's celebratory and a supplication. It's an afrobeat tune with a memorable chorus.

"You" is a highlife infused with an afro-pop production track. It is a fitting outro. Sweet, succinct and Lighthearted, sweet, and succinct. Every contributor on the record brought their best foot forward, carrying the record perfectly. It ended with every Mavin's artist's signature catchphrase and tagline's voice joined together as it all fell into the fray. Don Jazzy's voice stands out with his braggadocio line, "When You're big you're big, abeg"

As a pop dynasty that has existed for a decade, this album is the perfect project to celebrate the exploits and achievements made. It's diverse in performance, and it's thematically. This album is a compelling motivation for the next decade. A reminder of the past and the motivation for the future as the label is about to move into a new phase and also serves to commemorate Mavin's legendary decade run.

The production genius of producers from Andrevibez, Don Jazzy, Jvxn, Prestige & to seven cannot be denied. It's a stunning project. One of the most interesting parts of the project is the seamless chemistry of all the Mavins artists who worked on the project. It gives birth to a camaraderie amongst the artiste. Filled most with high-tempo songs, but the songs have excellent replay value that wants to make you listen repeatedly. Ultimately, all the featured artists brought their A-game while spicing things up for an irresistible jam and creating classics melody.

What particular song do you think deserves the "hit status" on the album? If you were to decide, which of the artists delivered the most stellar verse on the project and why? Let's know your thoughts.
