A Nigerian lady has sparked a fresh conversation online after sharing a shocking experience at her rented apartment, where part of her room floor reportedly sank and exposed a soakaway directly underneath.

The video showing the disturbing discovery has now gone viral on social media, leaving many people stunned and questioning how such a structure could exist beneath a residential room.

In the footage, a section of the floor appears to have given way, revealing the space beneath it and what was identified as a soakaway. The incident has prompted warnings for Nigerians searching for apartments to carry out proper inspections before paying rent or moving into a new property.

Reacting to the viral video, X user @GodwinsOE pointed out that house viewing should involve asking more detailed questions than the usual inquiries about electricity and water.

“When doing house viewing in Nigeria, ask specific questions. No be only ‘Una dey get light here?’”

He then jokingly added:

“Ask, ‘Where is the landlord or landlady buried?’ if they are no longer alive.”
