Halima explained that despite growing up in one of Nigeria’s wealthiest families, she and her siblings are generally quiet about who they are, what they own and the positions they hold. According to her, the sisters are different from some of their peers who are more comfortable publicly displaying their lifestyles and achievements.
“We’re not spoilt.”
Halima said that even when they meet other children of wealthy businessmen, including the children of their father’s friends, they do not feel the need to announce their identities or achievements.
She noted that being recognised by people today has actually made life more complicated, saying things were easier when people did not know who they were. “Now people recognize us, but it was easier when we were not recognized, you know, our results spoke for itself.”
The businesswoman also revealed that neither she nor her sisters are particularly interested in social media popularity or constantly showing off their lifestyles. According to her, while some people enjoy being publicly recognised and sharing their lives online, the Dangote sisters prefer to remain private.
“I don’t think we are. All three of us, we’re not expressive of what we have or what we own or what we’re doing.”
For Halima, the biggest proof of their work is not social media attention but the performance of the businesses they are involved in. She pointed to their sales, profits, growth and positions within their businesses as evidence that their achievements can speak for themselves.
“Numbers don’t lie. So that’s it.”
Her comments have since sparked conversations online about how children of wealthy families choose to handle privilege, with Halima making it clear that she and her sisters prefer results over recognition.
