Macron Hosts Tinubu to Private Dinner at Élysée Palace in Paris

The dinner was disclosed by the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a post on X on Friday.

According to Onanuga, the meeting reflected the enduring relationship between Nigeria and France and their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation.

President Tinubu also shared his thoughts on the meeting through his official X handle, describing the dinner as a pleasure and noting that their conversation reaffirmed the strong friendship between the two countries.

Tinubu is currently in France as part of a three-week annual leave in Europe. He arrived in Paris on Sunday and was received by Nigeria's Ambassador to France, Ayodele Oke.

Before arriving in Paris, the President had travelled to London, United Kingdom, as part of his vacation.

The President's vacation commenced after he departed Abuja on August 30, 2026, and he is expected to return to Abuja at the end of his holiday to join the campaign for the 2027 general election. During the dinner, the two leaders discussed areas of mutual interest. Nigeria and France continue to deepen their cooperation in sectors including trade, investment, security, energy, innovation, culture, and the creative economy.

This was not the first time the two leaders had met in Paris, as Tinubu had also held discussions with Macron during a visit to the French capital in June 2023.

The latest engagement further highlights the ongoing diplomatic dialogue between Abuja and Paris as both countries seek to strengthen their strategic partnership. President Tinubu expressed his gratitude to Macron for the warm hospitality and friendship extended to him during the visit.

The meeting was described as a reflection of the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and France, with both nations committed to building a mutually beneficial partnership that serves the interests of their people.
