The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has rescued a newborn baby girl found abandoned inside a carton along a road in Galadima, Abuja, marking the third such case in the FCT within two weeks.

The discovery has raised fresh concerns over the growing trend of child abandonment in the capital territory. According to the FCT Police Command, the newborn was found inside a carton that had been left along the roadside, a location that exposed the infant to significant danger.

The police have not disclosed the exact circumstances surrounding the discovery, but the pattern of abandonment cases suggests a troubling and escalating problem.

SP Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer for the FCT Command, expressed deep concern over the disturbing trend. "Children being abandoned or left vulnerable in our communities must stop," she said.

She appealed to members of the public to come forward with any useful information that could assist the police in identifying and locating the baby's parents or family members.

The police spokesperson urged anyone with relevant information to contact the nearest police station or the FCT Police Command to assist in ensuring the child is reunited with her family and that those responsible are identified.

The command has not yet announced any arrests or leads in the case, and the investigation remains ongoing.

This is the third case of an abandoned baby reported within the FCT in the past two weeks. The frequency of these incidents has alarmed both the police and members of the public, prompting calls for greater awareness and support systems for vulnerable mothers and families.

The circumstances that lead to child abandonment are often complex, involving economic hardship, mental health challenges, and a lack of social safety nets.

The FCT Police Command has reiterated its commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society and has called on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.

The rescued baby is currently in the care of the authorities, and efforts are underway to ensure her safety and well-being while the investigation continues.
